Meet Abby!
Abby is a beautiful 14-year-old girl with a fun loving personality. She was born on Halloween, so naturally her favorite color is orange, and she loves everything pumpkin!
Abby has severe scoliosis, a disease causing an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine and has been dealing with this since the first grade. It makes it hard to breathe and play like other kids her age.
This is Abby’s x-ray(below), in which you can see her severe curves. Her major curve was 143 degrees, with 79 and 68 degree curves above and below it. Her lung capacity should be 2300 ccs, and she tested at only 500 ccs. Fortunately, and unbelievably, Abby’s only pain was where her ribs were resting on her hip.
Abby has been in treatment now for almost 9 months, and she has been such a hard worker! Her primary curve is now 109 deg, which is a reduction of 34 deg, or 24% of her curve. Her lung volume has doubled to 1000 ccs! However, unless Abby is able to continue treatment, her curve size will undoubtedly progress and her lung capacity will be further compromised.
Abby is having a fundraiser through The Leavell Foundation to supply the money for the care that can save her life. This will allow her to fulfill her dream of one day becoming a teacher, so that she can give back to the community. Thank you all for the outpouring of love that we have seen for Abby! Please help make a difference for Abby… pass this information on to everyone you know. Please stay tuned here for more to come!
