Icing is an easy and effective way to treat pain due to inflammation and swelling.

Place the ice pack on the area where you are having pain. Do not place the ice pack directly on the skin. Place only a paper towel between the ice pack and the skin. Make sure your hair or clothing isn’t in the way. Yes, that makes it cold! But, remember, that’s the idea.

Keep the ice on the area until the area is numb. During the time it takes for the area to become numb, you will experience “CBAN”.

Cold Burn Ache Numb

Depending on the size of the area, most kids will experience numbness in 10 – 15 minutes, and most adults in 15 – 20 minutes. Do not leave ice on for more than 20 minutes. You may apply ice as frequently as once per hour. Enjoy natural pain relief!

I first found out I had scoliosis at my home. I was wearing a bikini and my mom noticed that something was wrong with the way my hips were shaped. Then we noticed that one of my shoulder blades stuck out further than the other. My mom took me to a few doctors and they were not much help; all they had to say was that I had scoliosis and I either needed to wear a brace or get surgery – which I refused immediately. A few days later my parents found the Rhino Scoliosis Center. They told me I would go in every other day of the week and do special exercises to reduce the curve in my spine. I did not completely understand the whole concept of the Rhino Scoliosis Center, but I was looking forward to reducing my curve. At the start I was nervous and did not know what to expect but after a few days of coming in, I quickly got the hang of it. At the end of my treatment series I was shocked by how much my curve had reduced!

I am so grateful to Dr. Jane, Nicole and everyone at Rhino for how much they have done for me!

This is an excerpt from a note from Skylar’s Dad, Brian, during which he is talking about his experiences with other doctors before they found RSC:

An Orthopedic doctor, an”expert” in scoliosis told us: “Yeah, she’s got scoliosis. An S-curve. Nothing you can do about it. Bracing doesn’t work. Best to just enjoy the time you have and we’ll see her in 6 months when we’ll probably have to schedule surgery.”

He said those words like he was reading out of a dictionary. Monotone, steady cadence, no emotion, looking at the x-ray, not us… Read More…

New Online Look Reflects New Sense of Purpose

Denver’s Rhino Scoliosis Center Has A New Website

DRAFT – NOT FOR RELEASE

WHEAT RIDGE, CO – MARCH 28, 2012 – Rhino Scoliosis Center, a facility dedicated to the treatment of spine-related illnesses since 2005, has announced the unveiling of their new Website for April 1st. This announcement is on the heels of the recent announcement of the name change of the facility to Rhino Scoliosis Center (RSC) in late February. The updated site is part of an over arching effort to refresh and streamline branding to more accurately reflect what the center has become, officials said.

“We have evolved, and it was time for our web presence to reflect our growth.’ said Dr. Jane Leavell, founder and chief practitioner. “Over the last 6 years we have grown and become more specialized in non-surgical alternative treatments for scoliosis. Our site depicts our position as a destination for non- bracing and non-surgical scoliosis treatment.”

In addition to common content, Rhino’s new site features useful scoliosis treatment information, and informative patient testimonials and case studies. It also serves as a portal for new patients, allowing them to fill out forms in the comfort of their own home. But perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the site is the number of real patients whose images and in some cases video content appear to support testimonial content and throughout. The staff and patients confided that the “theme” of the website is hinged on the “post-treatment adventures” of Rhino patients, any of whom are youths.

“For most of us, this treatment equals being able to do things we’ve never been able to do. Things people take for granted like sports or wearing a prom dress,” says Skylar, who, thanks to Rhino was able to both snowboard for the first time and wear that prom dress proudly last year.

Many families bring their kids to Rhino from all over the country for the high level of non-surgical intensive care offered. And not one of the parents hesitated to consent for their children to appear on the site, though of course no real names are used. Most were thrilled at the idea.

“The idea was to have the Rhino family represented throughout the site. And to showcase how treatment really changes life for our kids. So many just really come out of their shells, and the site really conveys this sense of adventure and active-ness,” says Dr. Leavell. “We even feature one of our patients’ parkour video as part of his testimonial!”

###

Rhino Spine Center is committed to providing hope for anyone that suffers from a spine related illness. As one of the first facilities worldwide to be certified for non-surgical scoliosis intensive care, we specialize in cutting edge treatment and therapies for scoliosis. We don’t only treat, but aim to educate our patients about their spine’s structure and function, and about how they can lead a post-treatment lifestyle to avoid bracing and surgery.

New Initiative Communicates Organization’s Alternative Solutions for Those Living with Scoliosis

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.– July 11, 2012 – Rhino Spine Center, dedicated to the treatment of spine-related conditions for over a decade, is announcing it has changed the facility’s name to Rhino Scoliosis Center (RSC). The decision is part of an overall effort to streamline branding to more accurately reflect what the center has become.

“Considering our patients many needs, we realized a branding update was in order to better represent what we do.” said Dr. Jane Leavell, founder and Clinical Director. “Over several years we have grown to be more focused on non-surgical alternative treatments for scoliosis. Our track record of successful outcomes for patients is impressive! We have become the destination for non-bracing/non-surgical scoliosis treatment not only in Colorado but also the world.” More and more people are discovering us, and as one of our 64-year old patients, Susy, has said: “When something works this well, it’s silly not to do it!

“R.H.I.NO in the RSC slogan stands for “Reduction, Hope, Innovation, and NO bracing or surgery.” It expresses the benefits patients receive due to RSC’s commitment to scoliosis solutions that do not involve the two common treatment types widely prescribed in the medical community. Scoliosis is estimated to affect over 15 million people in the US, and over 316 million people worldwide. Patients with scoliosis faced bracing or spinal fusion surgery as their primary options for care.

Now, the future looks brighter for individuals diagnosed with scoliosis. “The current medical solutions leave devastation and agony in their wake. We will never achieve different results unless we do something different.” Dr. Leavell firmly believes. “Here at RSC, our passion to find that difference is changing people’s lives.”

Many with scoliosis are urgently seeking specialized teams like Rhino’s, and the new name enables RSC to be more visible to the community of patients we serve. In fact, though scoliosis is a widely known condition, centers like Rhino are not as common as one would think. Dr. Leavell, or Dr. Jane, as patients generally call her, is one of just a few doctors and the only woman worldwide certified to provide the level of non-surgical intensive care she provides at Rhino Scoliosis Center.

The new name is one among several changes going on at Rhino Scoliosis Center. They recently completed a website makeover and are poised to announce a new non-profit endeavor in 2012.

“Rhino Scoliosis Center has grown, and the word is getting out. People are finding their way to our facility from all over the world.” Dr. Jane explains. “We are really excited to be able to change the lives of so many, and in such a significant way.”
